Fire Door Inspection, Maintenance & Installation

Fire Door Inspections

Fire doors are specifically designed and manufactured to stop the spread of not only fire, but also smoke. Consequently, fire doors provide critical protection and are a fundamental element of the fire strategy and fabric of any building as they save lives and help protect the structure of the building. It is therefore essential that all fire doors are constantly fit for purpose and comply with The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 to ensure they will perform correctly in the event of a fire.

The Fire (Scotland) Act 2005 stipulates that the duty holder (the person responsible for the building) has a legal obligation to regularly check all fire doors and to ensure a suitable maintenance and inspection plan is in place so that all relevant equipment is kept in an efficient state and fit for purpose.

Firelink undertake fire door inspections and reports for clients throughout the UK. During a fire door inspection, our FDIS certified inspectors carefully inspect each component of the fire door assembly.

Fire Door Inspections Include:

  • Door closer (self-closing devices)
  • Door frame
  • Door leaf
  • Fire safety signage
  • Gaps around the doors and threshold gaps
  • Glazing (vision panels)
  • Hinges
  • Hold open devices
  • Intumescent door strip and cold smoke seals
  • Locks, levers and handles
  • Panic hardware devices

Upon completion of fire door and final fire exit door inspections we will provide you with a thorough fire door report which details the condition of each fire door, and highlights any areas of non-compliance. If necessary, we will then advise you of potential solutions which will be reviewed during future inspections.

Fire Door Maintenance

Fire doors save lives and protect buildings and structures in the event of a fire. They are a vital part of a building or structures passive fire protection system. It is therefore crucial that fire doorsets are properly maintained in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions, or appropriate guidelines, by a certified and accredited fire door maintainer.

As with all other fire protection equipment, fire doorsets must be regularly checked to ensure they function correctly, are fit for purpose, and ready to use in the event of an emergency. Fire door maintenance should be treated in exactly the same manner as testing other fire protection equipment.
